Ingredients
  

  • 8 oz 225g penne pasta
  • 1 can 14 oz / 400g whole peeled tomatoes
  • 3 –4 cloves fresh garlic thinly sliced

Equipment

  • Large pot
  • Colander (strainer)
  • Large skillet or pan
  • Wooden spoon
  • Knife
  • Cutting board
  • Measuring cup (for pasta water)

Method
 

Step 1: Cook the Pasta
  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil.
  2. Add 1–2 tablespoons salt (water should taste like the sea).
  3. Cook penne pasta until al dente (about 9–11 minutes).
  4. Reserve ½ cup of pasta water, then drain.

Step 2: Prepare the Sauce
  1. Heat a pan over medium heat.
  2. Add a small splash of water and sliced garlic.
  3. Cook gently until garlic is soft and fragrant (do not brown).
  4. Add canned tomatoes and crush them with a spoon.
  5. Simmer for 10–15 minutes until slightly thickened.
Step 3: Combine
  1. Add cooked pasta to the sauce.
  2. Toss well to coat evenly.
  3. Add a splash of reserved pasta water if needed.
  4. Simmer together for 2–3 minutes.

Step 4: Serve
  1. Serve hot immediately. Enjoy a simple, comforting homemade pasta.

Notes

  • Do not burn the garlicit will turn bitter.
  • Always salt your pasta water properly for flavor.
  • Simmer tomatoes long enough to avoid a watery sauce.
